• Oooh, a contributor alerted me very early in the day to a fresh content piece, that I mistakenly thought had already been done. That piece was Giant Spider Attacks Nasa
  • I was in a fog this am from lack of caffeine but I had the scoop. I think I have seen it before, and since I liked it so much I faultily assumed that it had made the Digg-Reddit-Stumble route already.
  • At one point the site was on the front page of Google for ‘Spider Attacks Nasa’ but it is nowhere to be found now.
  • WTF is wrong with me all of a sudden? That was exactly what I was looking for, and I missed my wave.

Maybe I should get a job..

Anyway, here’s the takeaway!

  • Do your homework. If I had checked the competition during the day. Remember you are playing the board with this stuff. Watch what is hitting. Look for a vacancy. Especially a vacancy that fits your niche. Luckily, I have a content strategy in place, in that my wife is rapidly taking over that blog, and she had the right post up there but I missed its significance. Which means that having a system works but all the pieces have to be attended. Most especially the webmaster’s.
  • What I need to do is be on the lookout for pieces that will work. A spider attacking NASA
  • Schedule your promotional assets for a new content piece immediately. You don’t have to do them all right away but you need to decide right away what needs to be done for it. For instance, if you like it so much you want to plant it on a premium site like Sportsfilter, there’s a lot of consideration of scheduling and concern for the integrity of the account (don’t want to get banned from those sort of places).
  • You should have a video blog. You should have a weird stuff blog. You should have a politics blog. All monetized with Adsense - I suggest the AdSense integrated, flexible, professional theme — ProSense Wordpress theme. Park stuff there and claim it in technorati.

EDIT - It was on Countdown! Damn it..
