Oh Google…
One of the endless Google Myths is that they only hire geniuses. I think this blog post effectively rebuts that contention
For you busy types - I’ll summarize. Lauren, an ad salesperson, I mean, “Account Planner” is dismayed by the negative press that the healthcare industry gets in general but more specifically upset about the unfair tactics of Michael Moore
Moore attacks health insurers, health providers, and pharmaceutical companies by connecting them to isolated and emotional stories of the system at its worst. Moore’s film portrays the industry as money and marketing driven, and fails to show healthcare’s interest in patient well-being and care.
No Healthcare fails to show healthcare’s interest in patient well-being and care. You dont readstories of people that “fall through the cracks” you read stories about people who the system fails deliberately because of the profit motive that is built in to capitalism, which is an historic partner with industry, especially in the USA.
Oh heck, let me help the Industry out. I’ll show their interest in patient well-being and care. Here’s an article from the American Association of Family Practitioners about making sure a family doctor’s patients admitted to a hospital are treated in the most “efficient” manner possible - this includes letting just about anyone discharge a patient, substituting the HMO’s guidelines for treatment for a doctor’s training and expertise and you know, just making things more efficient
Of course, just because resources are available doesn’t mean they must be tapped, particularly if they’re expensive and likely to lead to high-intensity procedures. Before seeking a consult or ordering a test, consider the likely outcome of what you’re tempted to order. When expensive equipment reveals something, doctors tend to want to act on it. Imaging studies often show abnormalities that lead to follow-up, even though the findings may or may not be related to disease. By statistical definition, roughly 5 percent of laboratory test results on healthy people fall outside the laboratory’s normal range, sometimes prompting further investigation of problems that patients aren’t experiencing. Patients, having been admitted, expect things to be done, and physicians expect to do them. Consultations with pulmonologists tend to lead to bronchoscopy. Consultations with surgeons tend to lead to surgery. And so on.
Anyway, you know this part of the deal, when we allowed the “healthcare industry” to supplant “medicine” we stopped being people and became profit centers. This is not going down too easy with me, Michael Moore and the majority of Americans. (questions 3 and 4 among others)
That’s where Lauren and Google come in…
the media may use an isolated, heartbreaking, or sensationalist story to paint a picture of healthcare as a whole. With all the coverage, it’s a shame no one focuses on the industry’s numerous prescription programs, charity services, and philanthropy efforts.
Many of our clients face these issues; companies come to us hoping we can help them better manage their reputations through “Get the Facts” or issue management campaigns. Your brand or corporate site may already have these informational assets, but can users easily find them?
We can place text ads, video ads, and rich media ads in paid search results or in relevant websites within our ever-expanding content network. Whatever the problem, Google can act as a platform for educating the public and promoting your message. We help you connect your company’s assets while helping users find the information they seek.
Lauren isn’t selling advertising anymore, she’s selling education. You might call it “fair and balanced”. Its very selfless of her, ruining her and Google’s reputation like this, so that our noble and stigmatized health care providers can get back to rationing the services we Americans pay through the nose for.
I hope Lauren keeps on giving me the facts re: reputation management before Google fires her.
Google’s Motto = Dont Be Evil
Sergey Brin! How does offering yourself up as a cheap and easy astroturfing solution for America’s most despised industry not constitute evil? What the fuck do you have against high-quality health care anyway? I really really hate you guys, and I wish you’d quit pretending you were different from any other advertising platform. Well you are different, all the scumbag marketers I know save this kind of shit for hoarse whispers over the phone, they don’t fucking blog about their willingness to shout down the complaints of the victimized. I know you fools feel invincible, but you aren’t. The American public puts an alarming amount of trust in you. Waste it this stupidly and you’ll give back your accomplishments in the same amount of hyperspeed Internet time that you acheived them.
